Shoe Carnival needed to improve operational readiness, enable real-time analytical reporting, and resolve disaster recovery gaps in their Oracle GoldenGate (Classic) environment running on Oracle Exadata X9. RheoData partnered with Shoe Carnival to architect and execute a seamless migration from Oracle GoldenGate (Classic) to Oracle GoldenGate (Microservices) with near-zero operational interruption.
RheoData began by evaluating Shoe Carnival's existing Oracle GoldenGate (Classic) architecture, which relied on four extracts and four replicats managed through a single GGSCI on the primary Exadata X9, and identified the manual failover process as the critical weakness. RheoData then designed a robust, off-box Oracle GoldenGate Hub architecture leveraging Microservices, with deployment homes hosted on NFS to allow rapid remounting during failover events. The team configured all aspects of the new architecture, including three deployments on the GoldenGate Hub for streamlined administration and flexibility. RheoData led extensive failover testing across both the primary and disaster recovery Exadata X9 environments to validate resiliency. During the cut-over, RheoData and Shoe Carnival followed a precise sequence — starting new extracts, stopping legacy extracts, confirming replicats reached EOF, stopping legacy replicats, and starting new replicats on the OGG Hub — to guarantee transactional integrity. The entire cut-over was completed in under forty-five minutes with no disruption to business operations.
The migration delivered transformative results for Shoe Carnival, with the entire cut-over completed in under forty-five minutes while maintaining zero impact on daily business operations and zero loss of transactions. The new Oracle GoldenGate Hub architecture, built on Microservices with NFS-mounted deployment homes, established high availability at minimal cost and dramatically reduced disaster recovery failover times compared to the previous manual process. Shoe Carnival gained real-time data feeds that enhanced analytical reporting and accelerated data delivery to end-business users, while the off-Exadata hub design introduced greater architectural flexibility, scalability, and centralized administration. Together, these outcomes positioned Shoe Carnival to be more agile in meeting evolving business needs and laid a modern foundation for future data integration growth.
